UFC on Fox 7: Henderson compared to. Melendez Produces on Substantial Guarantee

UFC on Fox: Henderson versus. Melendez could've been a tragedy. Rather, it had been a face-smashing success filled with an in-Octagon marriage proposal. The installment of UFC on Fox had built up a serious reputation in the days and days preceding the big event. The headliner was a bout between UFC light winner Benson Henderson and top-ranked adversary Gilbert Melendez, nonetheless it was the level of the card that really had the mixed fighting styles world buzzing.AFor the very first time since UFC on Fox: Evans vs. The second time since the two parties and Davis (aka UFC on Fox 2) inked theirAseven-year contractAfor transmission rights, the powers that be had stacked the card with convincing matchups. More importantly, Lady Luck cooperated, the injury bug stayed away and the matchups kept unchanged. Skilled UFC newcomer Daniel Cormier and former UFC heavyweight winner Frank Mir shared the spotlight with the champion and El Nino in the co-main event. There is a conflict between elite lightweights Josh Thomson and Nate Diaz, in addition to a sneaky-good pairing of middleweights Matt Brown and Jordan Mein. On top of that, the undercard highlighted a few exciting names facing legitimate competition. Therefore individuals were excited by simply the bare bones of the card. In the event they were not, UFC president Dana White and Co. were promoting it with their typical understated touch. Experts were expecting an exciting afternoon/evening of fights, which built the stakes high enough. In addition, you had the poor sense to last four cards on Fox (here, here, here and here )a'which was not fundamentally honest, but still existeda'and the fact that it was all happening on network television, a sensation to which the UFC remains fairly new. Available so that you had greater than a few chips. Deliver on the nonsense and much of the Fox-related grousing would be forgotten while the UFC included another gain to an already triumphant 2013 schedule.AFail to produce and the ironic moaning about vanilla-but-still-free cards starts up again, putting a on the year's good vibe. The players held up their end of the deal, fortunately for many concerned, and Benson Henderson even included a heart-warming wild card. Four of the 12 battles went along to decisions and two of those were the co-main activities, which were enjoyable affairs even though they were not fully satisfying. Only 1 of the decisions was a real doga'Francis Carmont over Lorenz Larkina'as the next, Jorge Masvidal over Tim Means, heated up toward the finish. All seven of the other tilts concluded in knockouts, and higher than a number of those were of the spectacular variety. Yoel Romero kicked things off almost practically, finishing the card's first bout with a flying leg to the mouth of Clifford Starks before finishing him off with blows. Anthony Njokuani shut the lights on Roger Bowling with a beautiful left hook that landed on the switch, Joseph Benavidez stopped Darren Uyenoyama with a left hook to the body and Thomson became the initial person to hit out Nate Diaz, doing this with a savage mind end. T.J. Dillashaw, Myles Jury, Chad Mendes and Brown each won extraordinary knockouts within their own right. Better yet, the vast majority exhibited fast-paced, action-packed scraps between aggressive competitors. The Punk harried Diaz for six relentless minutes before forcing Nate's spot to throw in the towel, actually. DC did just about whatever he needed with Mir, although not for lack of effort or heart on Frank's part. The ex-champ earned his warrior lines by taking what Cormier dished out and returning fire with whatever he had left. Melendez and smooth struggled in a razor-close, back-and-forth affair that ended in a split decision for Henderson and a really displeased HP Pavilion in San Jose, but just since the local favorite dropped. The actual name fight left little to be preferred. Of course, the Fight of the Night was Brown's aforementioned TKO of the young prospect Mein. The Immortal, who appeared to have now been set up for against the 23-year-old Canadian, set a sizzling pace form the start and had Mein on the defensive for much of the very first round. The tide was turned by young Gun with less than two minutes to get, nevertheless, crumpling Brown to the material with huge shot and then threatening to pound his adversary out. Brown managed to retrieve and snap on a small triangle choke, imperiling Mein for a couple moments ahead of the child wriggled free. And that was all in Round 1. The second round started much the same way, but Mein couldn't endure the second start and The Immortal had his success. Granted, the function wasn't perfect. Cormier's performance against Mir left also the fighter, himself, saying it "didn't cause a title shot." That might've been DC posturing because he doesn't desire to confront his teammate, buddy and UFC heavyweight winner Cain Velasquez. But it was also the reality. Thus the victory sheds less light on DC as a significant risk at 265 pounds, or even to UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones (should Cormier drop down a class), than most had anticipated. Most glowingly was the ill-received split up decision that held the UFC light tie around Henderson's middle. Many in the cageside media obtained the main event three times to two for the opposition Melendez, and like its boy had done enough to take the concept the partisan group certainly felt. Privately, I thought El Nino had taken it 48-47 (three rounds to two), but I was also tweeting that each of the rounds could've justifiably attended either fighter. The thing was this near being a certifiable tossup. Consequently, it is possible to comprehend everyone's frustration, particularly that of a Gil Melendez, but the separate decision was far from a theft. It will not and cannot detract from the thing that was an extremely competitive title collision. I mean, c'mon, who does perhaps not love a married relationship proposal? Nor should/can it detract from the general success of UFC on Fox 7. With a lot operating on its high targets, the card came through like the champion, this means Dana White and Benson Henderson both had reason to smile. However the biggest winners were the lovers, who got a nights free fights they will not soon forget. *All quotes acquired first-hand unless otherwise noted.
