West Bromwich Albion defender Liam Ridgewell today claimed Hawthorns No.1 Ben Foster should be classed alongside England rival Joe Hart as one of the best goalkeepers in the world.
Foster will again be on hand as understudy to Hart tomorrow night when the Three Lions take on Montenegro in a vital World Cup qualifier.
But Ridgewell, who played in front of both men at Birmingham and is now a team-mate of Foster's with West Brom, believes the pair are very closely matched.
Hart's displays for England and Manchester City have seen the former Shrewsbury man recognised as one of the world's top glovemen and Ridgewell insisted: "I don't see why Ben shouldn't be in that bracket.
"It's brilliant for England to have someone like that but it's unfortunate for him that England have two goalies at a top-drawer level in Joe and him.
"The two of them are quite similar. They are brilliant shot-stoppers, good at kicking, good at talking and, when you need them most, they make that vital save.
Foster ended his self-imposed two-year international exile earlier this month following discussions with Hodgson and was on the bench for Friday's 8-0 thrashing of San Marino.
And Ridgewell believes Foster's form at The Hawthorns merited an immediate recall by former Albion boss and current England manager Hodgson.
"It's his one-off saves that are the best thing. There are shots that, with a lot of keepers, might go in but, when you think it's going to go in, he saves it.
